Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does it cost?
A: As with any project, it depends. The complexity and scale of the project determines how much it costs. We have 2 basic ways of charging. One is a flat rate. This method is used when the project can be completely defined and scoped out. If we have done a similar project before then we can negotiate a flat rate. If you have worked with us before we can usually work out a flat rate as well. The second (and more common) method is an hourly rate. This again depends upon the complexity and scope of the project and whether or not we have done something similar. We are also open to working on a retainer basis as well.

Q: Do we have to pay all up front?
A: No. Usually we set milestones on a project and you pay as we meet those agreed upon milestones. If the project is a small one, then you only have to pay when the work is completed.

Q: Will you work as a temporary employee?
A: Possibly. Depending on the circumstances of the situation, we can work as an employee (under a W-4). Typically, we work as an independent contractor (1099).

Q: If you write software, who owns the software?
A: This is often an overlooked question. It can be vital to your project. The short answer for this is that it is negotiable. We usually do not have a problem signing over the copyrights to the software we write. However, it must be written in a contract and will never be assumed unless done so.

Q: What is your policy on bug fixes?
A: We stand by our work. If something does not work, we will fix it (for free). However, it should be noted here that if you decide that the software does not work like you meant it to and the software works as it was scoped out, then you must pay for any changes or modifications. If you have a problem with any software we create and the problem turns out to be the result of something we had no control over, then you will be charged for our time and effort (this is always put in an agreement).

Q: What kind of support can we expect?
A: We are available during normal working hours. If your company or project requires 24/7 or any kind of support outside normal working business hours, then we can accommodate you as well, as long as this is specified up front. We have a long history working in the manufacturing industry where 24/7 coverage is necessary.
